80% students flunk mandatory test after MBBS in China, Russia

Planning to pursue MBBS in Russia or China? Think again. Reason: Indian students who go abroad for a medical degree have to clear a mandatory test on their return for doing practice here. However, more than 80% candidates from medical colleges in China and Russia are not able to clear the screening test conducted by the National Board of Examination.
A large number of aspirants from the region, especially Punjab, spend a fortune to acquire a medical degree from these countries.
The Medical Council of India allows Indian students to seek degree from any recognised medical education institution in a foreign country. However, to get registered with the MCI or state medical councils, such students have to clear the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination.
According to the data procured from the MCI, between 2012 and 2014 around 36,000 candidates came back after completing MBBS abroad. However, only 20% candidates could qualify the compulsory screening test. While only 18% students from Chinese and Russian colleges could clear the test, the percentage of students from other countries clearing the test was 24.
“We get a large number of applications from foreign MBBS graduates who want to register with us. But we can’t register them until they clear the screening test.
